About CARM

CARM is 501(c)3 non-profit, Internet based ministry with three main goals:

  1. Bring glory and honor to God
    • CARM does this by presenting the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ....
  2. Equip Christians in the truth
    • CARM does this by providing information on Christian Doctrine, theology, evangelism, and other subjects.  The goal is to present an accurate and biblical representation of Christian truth and answer the objections of critics of Christianity.
  3. Lead non-Christians to Christ.
    • CARM does this by answering objections, teaching biblical truth, and promoting the saving gospel of Christ.

More about CARM

My name is Matthew J. Slick, the President of CARM.  I'm 51, married, have children, and live in Idaho.   Studying cults and apologetics has been a passion of mine since 1980.  In 1991, I graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity.   I'm reformed in theology (but do not push it on CARM), ordained, and my main goal is to point people to Jesus.
I write all the papers on CARM except for the testimonies and the evolution section.  I am also the sole designer of the entire website.  There are a few gracious people who help in answering emails and keeping the many discussion boards under control.  Much of CARM has been translated into Spanish.  The Warning Tract has been downloaded thousands of times and is being distributed in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa.
I attend a home based church and am non-denominational at heart.  CARM is not representing any denomination.
CARM is linked to hundreds and hundreds of other websites, has been quoted in Newspapers, magazines, and on radio.  It gets around 12,000 emails a year and about 250,000 page views per week in the entire site and 33,000 weekly on the home page.
This ministry is desperately needed as is obvious from the countless emails of thanks and requests for help that I receive regularly.
I went full time in CARM in March of 2006.

History of CARM

I began studying cults in 1980 starting with Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses.  After a few months, a friend of mine and I started a swap-meet ministry (flea market).  We set up a booth every Saturday for 2 1/2 years and we passed out literature on cults, evolution, evangelism, the new age, etc.  It was there that I learned most of what I know today -- by debating with hundreds of people.   Next, I began doing beach evangelism where I dressed up like a punker (really), pierced my ear, and carried a huge Bible.  It was a very interesting experience.  One year I put an ad in a local publication that said, "Learn the truth about Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, Christian Science, and Unity.   Call - phone number."  That too was very interesting.  Next came a position teaching evangelism at a local church, then teaching Bible studies, then a few speaking engagements, then college, then seminary, more speaking engagements, pulpit supply, pastoring, radio, a TV interview, the web, and getting Right Answers for Wrong Beliefs published, etc.
CARM first appeared on the Internet in October of 1995.  Initially, I only wanted to publish some of the information I had on doctrine and cults.  But, with the inundation of emails, requests for information, the hundreds of links from other sites, and the surprising joy it is to work on CARM, etc., this ministry began to grow.

Future of CARM

I plan to expand CARM into many more areas including the occult, philosophy, psychology, Hinduism, etc., finish the evolution section, and do much more.  If you have suggestions, please let me know.  I have an extensive list of items on my "to do" list which is growing.
By God's grace, my goal is to eventually move CARM into a full-time, multi-staffed organization.  I already am in contact with several individuals who would easily qualify as staff members and they have expressed interest in this project.
So, if you feel led, please pray for me.  I need it.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
